Job Description - Senior QA/QC Inspector (Advance NDT)
Part A: Job Specification
Job Purpose * To interpret the suitability of products and processes against the
designated specification requirements at scheduled and ad-hoc
intervals. The role is primarily responsible to report using advance NDT
techniques, accurate defect detection, characterization, and supporting
a safe and reliable project execution.
* Responsible for advanced NDT technical review, verification of
inspection technique suitability, independent assessment of contractor
inspection outputs, and support to weld quality decisions during project
execution
Reporting and
Relationships * Reports to Head - Projects QA/QC / OR his delegate for technical
matter and guidance and execution related work activities
Internal
* Frequent interface with PMD Construction and Execution Team, and
sometimes with Operation and the Discipline Engineer
External
* Frequent interface with Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC)
contractors, NDT Contractors and third-party inspection agencies
Job Context &
Major Challenge(s)
* Works in accordance with company policies and directives from the Project QA/QC Engineer / Quality Engineering Specialist
* Review and verify PAUT/TOFD scan plans, scanning coverage, calibration setup, sensitivity, reporting basis, and technique applicability against the governing code, project specification, and inspection scope.
* Perform technical oversight of PAUT applications on carbon steel welds and dissimilar / clad weld configurations, including verification of scan strategy, beam coverage, calibration approach, and examination limitations associated with clad or weld overlay surfaces
* Technically evaluate and validate indication detection, characterization, and sizing results generated through advanced NDT methods and assess compliance against the applicable acceptance criteria and support other NDT techniques.
* Provides inspection related recommendations on applicable projects activities.
* Works within established company corporate and industry policies and procedures
* Close working relationship with assigned inspection personnel to ensure that they are fully aware of their assigned roles and responsibilities.
* Coordination with multiple stakeholders while maintaining inspection integrity and independence and advise internal user departments on quality and inspection related issues and monitors adherence.
* Regular meetings with QA/QC Engineer, to discuss ongoing projects and work priorities.

Key Job Accountabilities
1. Engage with external Contractors to perform PAUT/TOFD and advance NDT techniques and
perform defect sizing, characterisation.
2. Review and technically assess contractor-issued NDT reports, interpretation records, images,
and supporting inspection data to confirm adequacy, traceability, and compliance prior to
acceptance.
3. Review and verify NDT procedures, technique sheets, personnel certifications, calibration
records, equipment validity, and qualification records prior to commencement of inspection
activities.
4. Ensure full traceability between weld maps, line/component identification, NDT reports, repair
history, final inspection status, and supporting quality records.
5. Interpret advance NDT data and evaluate indications against the applicable acceptance criteria
(ASME, API, Project specs.) and prepare and accurate inspection reports with supporting
data/images.
6. Engaging contractors and applicable third-party organisations with a professional approach and
maintain a good working level relationship
7. Review contractors documented quality deliverables in accordance with the requirements and
expectations of COMPANY and provide clear, concise output to the applicable quality focal point.
8. Evaluate the suitability of products and processes at key stages against the prescribed
specification requirements and is effectively implemented.
9. Ensure NDE traceability of inspected welds and components.
* Regular internal contact with construction specialists and project teams to provide advice on project quality related issues.
* Works under pressure in fast-track Shutdown projects and able to provide professional, concise response to quality related queries/ concerns.
* Undertakes investigations and problem solving of a routine and ad-hoc nature, with the more complex issues being elevated to the QA/QC Engineer for advice or decision.
* Plans and prioritises work within agreed work programs.
10. Continuously monitor the quality of works in progress at site and at the EPC Contractor
fabrication workshop against the applicable NDT Procedure and COMPANY technical
specification.
11. Verify NDT calibration blocks, reference standards, and equipment validity.
12. Ensure that the latest revision of project quality documentation is available, and that records of
product and process conformance are maintained in accordance with the document and record
control requirements.
13. Prepare a daily report summarising the salient inspection points and quality concerns and
coordinate directly with the assigned quality focal point regarding any significant issues
identified.
14. Manage and participate in site quality verification activities (i.e. Quality Walkabout and
Procurement Surveillance) and document results using the applicable inspection report
template.
15. Record and facilitate the follow-up of product related non-conformance results.
16. Prepare and present topics during the annual quality training program and prepare discipline
quality specific training material when requested by the quality focal point.
17. Act as the 'eyes and ears' of COMPANY project management team to ensure that COMPANY
quality requirements and expectations are fully satisfied.
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Engineering - Mechanical / Metallurgy or Equivalent
* NDT certificate in ASNT/PCN Level III for methods in UT, RT, PAUT
and TOFD, as minimum.
* NDT certificate in ASNT/PCN Level II for methods MT and PT, as
minimum
* CSWIP 3.1 certification and NDT Certificate in ECT, preferred
Knowledge and/or
Experience
* Minimum 10 years of working experience as NDE personnel for Oil
& Gas projects, preferably in LNG (greenfield, brownfield,
shutdowns, and live plant environments).
* Demonstrated minimum 4-6 years of hands-on experience in
advance NDT (PAUT/TOFD) post certification and NDT data
interpretation, procedure review, scan plan assessment, and
technical validation of contractor inspection outputs.
* Practical experience in interpretation and acceptance evaluation
of weld inspection results against ASME Section V, ASME B31.3,
ASME VIII, API 1104, API 5L, project specifications, and approved
inspection procedures.
* Demonstrated understanding of welding processes, weld joint
configurations, weld repair scenarios, heat affected zone
considerations, common fabrication and service-induced
discontinuities, and the impact of welding variables on NDT
technique selection and interpretation.
* Demonstrated ability to assess inspection limitations arising from
geometry, restricted access, material condition, weld profile,
coating, cladding, or in-service constraints, and recommend
technically suitable inspection approaches.
* Extensive experience with reviewing/interpretation of
PAUT/TOFD, RT Film and witnessing of MT and PT methods.
* Experience in tube inspection (ECT, IRIS, ACFM), corrosion
mapping and inspection of TKY weld joints
* Understanding of common weld defects and discontinuities, sour
service, calibration techniques and scan plan development.
* Familiar with ISO 9001 quality assurance principles and practices.
Technical and Business Skills * Fluent in both spoken and written English.
* Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
* Advanced computer literacy.
* Capability to handle high-pressure project environments
* Strong technical background in advanced NDT, welding,
fabrication, and code-based acceptance evaluation, with proven
QA/QC inspection and coordination experience
