Commissioning Specialist (I&C)

Job Purpose
The Commissioning Specialist I&C is responsible for overseeing, monitoring, and assuring all commissioning activities related to field instrumentation and integrated control and safety systems (ICSS) during the fabrication and pre- commissioning of offshore platforms. The role ensures EPC contractors perform commissioning according to project specifications, international standards, and client requirements, while achieving safe, timely, and compliant system handover.

Job Context & Major Challenge(s)
The Commissioning Specialist I&C must possess extensive technical expertise, strong communication abilities, and a knack for resolving on-site technical issues. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential challenges, allowing the specialist to propose mitigation strategies ahead of time. By effectively managing constraints, the Commissioning Specialist ensures that equipment energizations and testing activities are completed safely and on schedule.

Key Job Accountabilities
1. Perform detailed technical review of EPC commissioning deliverables related to instrumentation and control systems, including loop folders, instrument data sheets, hook-up drawings, control narratives, cause & effect charts, and system test procedures to ensure readiness for energization and functional testing.
2. Act as Company Witness for I&C pre-commissioning and commissioning activities such as loop checks, instrument calibration, logic verification, and functional testing, ensuring compliance with approved procedures and project acceptance criteria.
3. Verify correct installation, calibration, and range setting of field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level, analysers), including impulse line integrity, manifold configuration, tubing installation, and instrument air quality prior to live commissioning.
4. Ensure ICSS/DCS/PLC systems are fully prepared for commissioning, including database loading, tag configuration, I/O allocation, controller redundancy validation, and verification of HMI graphics against as-built documentation.
5. Review and validate loop continuity, signal polarity, marshalling, grounding/earthing, and cable shielding to ensure signal integrity and minimize noise, drift, or communication faults.
6. Technically assess and approve I&C commissioning procedures and method statements, ensuring test sequences adequately cover interlocks, permissive, trips, alarms, fail-safe actions, and system recovery logic.
7. Participate in system walkdowns and loop verification to confirm installation compliance with P&IDs, loop diagrams, JB schedules, cable routing, hazardous area classification, and Ex certification requirements.
8. Lead and witness cause & effect testing, validating shutdown logic, ESD and F&G system integration, voting logic, and interface signals between ICSS, package units, and third-party systems.
9. Support dynamic commissioning by monitoring live process signals, verifying control loop tuning, alarm and trip setpoints, transmitter damping, and control valve stroking to ensure stable and reliable process control.
10. Witness FATs, SATs, and integrated system tests, verifying communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, etc.), interface signals, control philosophy implementation, and ensuring documentation is updated to reflect as-built conditions prior to handover.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Applied Sciences or Engineering.
Knowledge and/or Experience
* 8 years in Instrumentation and Control Systems commissioning activities with at least 3 years in a PMT or supervisory role in Oil & Gas large scale onshore and offshore projects.
* Background in Offshore platforms, topsides, is desirable.
* In depth knowledge of Instruments and ICSS systems, including DCS, ESD, F&G and PLC's interfaces.
