Job Description Process Engineering Manager

Job Purpose Lead Process Engineering activities with Licensors and FEED CTR, maintain consistency between the Process Engineering Specifications and deliverables. Ensure that key process engineering deliverables are fully executed by the FEED contractor as per Project schedule.

Reporting and Relationships


  • Reports to: Senior Project Manager - NFW FEED.
  • Direct report: 1 (FEED stage)

Internal:

  • Regular interface and collaboration with NFW and NFS Process, I&CS, Telecom, Mechanical, Machinery, Civil/Structural, Loss Prevention Heads. Interactions with Interface, Operations representatives and Project Engineers within the NFW and NFS Onshore Projects organisation.
  • Frequent contact with NFW & NFS Construction, Quality, Operations, SHEQ, and QE-LNG Engineering departments as required.

External:

  • Frequent interaction with Licensors, NFW FEED contractor and vendors

Job Context & Major Challenge(s)


  • This role is responsible of the process engineering work done during FEED and EPC phases for all units included in the scope of Process, Utilities and Offsite (U&O) areas.
  • Major challenges for this role are (1) effectively managing FEED contractor to deliver process engineering technical input in accordance with NFW project requirements (2) providing process support to other Major Projects as necessary, (3) maintaining constructive working relationship with FEED and EPC contractor, engineering sub-contractors and Operations team to ensure delivery of process engineering documents in accordance with project requirements and specific process studies (4) maintaining good relationships with stakeholders (e.g. Operations and SHEQ) to ensure alignment of U&O and Process Engineering deliverables.

Key Job Accountabilities


  • Drive process engineering activities, providing related technical knowledge, design, quality assurance, leadership and expertise while supervising and administering process design team in accordance with NFW Project deliverables and approved execution schedule.
  • Direct the preparation and stewardship of Process Engineering scope of work for feasibility studies, advice and recommend design procedures, processes deliverables and alternative studies, as required, to optimize project cost and schedule.
  • Maintain close liaison with members of PMT Engineering teams and alignment with the Engineering Manager on Project process engineering needs, objectives, and requirements.
  • Ensure that execution of process engineering work is technically aligned and in compliance with QatarEnergy LNG operations, policies, standards of business conduct and QatarEnergy LNG Project Management System (QGPMS).
  • Provide Process technical/engineering expertise and support to NFW PMT during vendors technical bid evaluations, assessing qualifications and process experience of engineering companies, and evaluating usage of appropriate design tools, including computer hardware and software; in adherence with all Project objectives, requirements, specifications, standards, procedures, execution plans and design verification processes.
  • Review and validate Licensors, FEED CTR and vendor process deliverables to ensure compliance with technical specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.


  • Maximize NFS design replication for NFW, while minimizing schedule and cost impact of NFS.
  • Assess potential risks to integrated process, utilities, and offsite systems, and develop initiative- taking mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions, including during commissioning, start-up, and early operations.
  • Implement effective knowledge capture, storage, and dissemination; sharing previous process engineering lessons learned and communicating them to support review teams and future projects and accelerate their learning and development for continual improvement.

  • Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications  Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.

    Knowledge and/or Experience


    • 15 years' experience in process engineering discipline with at least 10 years in oil & gas projects and/or operations.
    • FEED and EPC detailed design experience with LNG facilities process and utility systems (including combined cycle power plant, WHRUs, water desalination, cooling towers and wastewater treatment).
    • Demonstrated ability and sensitivity to work with people from variety of cultural backgrounds.

    Technical and Business Skills

    Behavioural Competencies


    • A high level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
    • Computer literacy involving the regular use of professional office applications and some technical applications.
    • Strong technical, prioritization and management skills.
    • Strong understanding of process simulation software (Hysis, Pro/II).
