Structural Engineering Specialist



Job Purpose

  • Provide structural and civil engineering advice and support to North Field Expansion (NFXP) Offshore Project Management Team (PMT), by coordinating onshore and offshore engineering aspects of the project in relation to the pipeline engineering discipline to ensure technical objectives are met within the approved scope, budget, and schedule.

Key Accountabilities

(Duties include but not limited to)

  • Monitor Contractor's performance and provide advice as necessary to make certain Company's design philosophy and specifications are achieved by establishing clear communication with the contractor and monitoring contractor and vendor quality control effort.
  • Champion initiatives with the Contractor to deliver on the project objectives i.e., safety, quality, cost and schedule and review and monitor contractor's pipeline engineering construction effort making recommendations to engineering manager and project engineers as necessary.
  • Provide guidance and timely review on contractor's structural and civil engineering designs and processes verifying fitness for purpose and compliance with contract requirements including codes and standards and ensure PMT or other technical support is available to address any gaps.
  • Support respective pipeline package managers in delivery of the engineering and process design of civil and structural systems and coordinate the offshore and onshore field installation of the NFXP systems, providing start-up and commissioning support as required.
  • Promote inter-departmental communications and encourage teamwork through managing the civil and structural engineering interface between topside & pipeline engineering and operations, drilling, well management, and jackets teams.
  • Provide technical support and advice to project procurement and construction activities and support NFXP pipeline engineering manager in monitoring the contractor progress on delivery of the required documents in the civil and structural engineering discipline.
  • Assist PMT in meeting QGPMS expectations as required by the facility design & construction.
  • Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in respective disciplines involved in delivery of the processes related to pipeline engineering.

  • Reports to: NFXP Offshore Head of Civil Engineering.

    Job Context & Major Challenge(s)

    Provide extensive knowledge and understanding on the requirements of ECPI, communicating and efficiently translating Company requirements and data into an efficient delivery from the contractor. Collaborate across disciplines (including Pipelines, Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Umbilicals, HSSE and Risk), and monitor the progress and delivery of the engineering sections of the workscope.


    Minimum Requirements


    Technical and Business Skills

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on teamwork and the ability to communicate and interact within a PMT.
    • A high level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
    • Computer literacy involving the regular use of professional office applications and some technical applications.
    • Good knowledge of structural, stress engineering, subsea, onshore pipeline, and mechanical equipment

    Qualifications

    Minimum bachelors engineering degree/diploma in related fields.


    Knowledge and/or Experience

    • 8+ years of relevant experience as structural engineering specialist, in a major project environment within the oil and gas industry and having a broad knowledge of engineering execution including design standards, specifications, codes, safety criteria, offshore facilities design, construction and operations.
    • Experience working on subsea and onshore pipeline systems.

    Technical and Business Skills

    • Assist for engineering and engineering implementation activities for promoting and implementing safety on at site, Implement the safety observations reporting and monitoring.
    • Provide support for execution of engineering activities at all locations and keep the team committed to targets defined by the project management.
    • Assist the project manager topside and pipeline in executing Project responsibilities for onshore and offshore structural engineering including system completion and pre-commissioning workflow process.
    • Anticipate, prepare, and manage all engineering activities including system completion and all pre-commissioning procedures, to ensure the technical objectives are met within the approved scope, budget, and schedule.
    • Ensure coordination and communication for all activities with other discipline such engineering, QA, C&I, SHE, business, OES, and operations to provide technical support with contractor, quality, safety, planning, engineering and start up/ performance testing.
    • Review and implement engineering documents and plan which prepared by EPC Contractor.
    • Ensure Contractor engineering submitted all documents as per schedule and timely reviewed and approved in accordance with the EPC contract requirements.
    • Review and propose mitigation for pre-commissioning and preservation aspects of the risk management plan and monitor the mitigation when defined.
    • Review all engineering changes, including justification for cost and schedule impacts, in accordance with the PMOC procedure.
    • Attend to meetings as required, mentor the trainees to develop their project skills and experience while being on site; Maintain a register of lessons learned
