Part A: Job Specification

Job Purpose

  • The Industrial Hygienist establishes and stewards an industrial hygiene (IH) audit program for the NFS Onshore Project in line with Project and LNG policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Contributes to incident investigations related to occupational illnesses to ensure accurate root cause analysis.
  • Provides leadership in establishing project oversight of EPC CONTRACTOR(s) management of its industrial hygiene program including development of a health risk assessment, monitoring plans, exposure assessment and health surveillance.

Key Accountabilities

(Duties include but not limited to)

  • The Industrial Hygienist contributes to the establishment of the project industrial hygiene management system, including hazard identification, exposure assessment and monitoring and health surveillance for NFS Onshore, in-line with Project, LNG SHES policies and procedures as well as relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the investigation of occupational injuries and illnesses and communicable disease outbreaks.
  • Ensures that project occupational health and hygiene management procedures are aligned with Project, LNG, and RLIC requirements as well as legal requirements of the State of Qatar.
  • Reviews all occupational health and hygiene requirements (deliverables) for the EPC phase of the project in consideration of project requirements and regulatory bodies (e.g. MoPH, and Project and LNG health and safety requirements).
  • Ensures that EPC Contractor complies with the project requirements including industrial hygiene, food and water safety, heat stress prevention, ergonomics and camp hygiene.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of communicable disease prevention and control plans.
  • Participates in EPC Contractor's site and camp inspections and Company's SHES audits.
  • Prepares inspection, audit and monthly activity reports.
  • Supports the development of a centralized database for heath surveillance of Similar Exposure Groups.
  • Contributes to periodic injury and illness statistics and analysis, developing recommendations, and reporting to project management.
  • Interfaces as key focal point between relevant health representatives including regulatory bodies, Qatargas, QP and EPC CONTRACTOR(s).
  • Reviews EPC CONTRACTOR(s) industrial hygiene candidates to ensure they meet project requirements.

  • Ensures a world-class standard for worker health and welfare for the NFS Onshore aligned with Project and LNG procedures that meet or exceed RLIC/ standards and comply with legal requirements.
  • Works in a project environment with widespread work front locations with project specific agendas and priorities.
  • Must establish credibility to build and maintain a strong network across LNG and the EPC CONTRACTOR and develop good relationships with mutual aid partners and stakeholders.
  • Must consistently deliver on short deadlines and under high pressure with multi-tasking abilities.

Part B: Candidate Specification - Minimum Requirements

Technical and Business Skills

  • A thorough knowledge of occupational health hazard recognition, monitoring and control.
  • Thorough knowledge of hazardous material management.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.
  • Ability to develop IH related plans, procedures and documents, and review and comment on technical documents.
  • Strong teamwork, facilitation, with the ability to communicate and interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures to obtain a world-class SHES performance.
  • Team player who can effectively collaborate within Project Teams and with external parties.
  • Establishes and sustains credibility with peers, subordinates and supervisors.
  • Takes responsibility for own work products and can perform at high level without supervision.
  • Computer literate and confident user of Microsoft office applications, email and internet.


  • BSc in Health Sciences (Occupational Health, Public Health, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene), Chemical/Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Health/ Biological Sciences.
  • International certification or training in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, (e.g.: NEBOSH IGC in Occupational Health and Safety, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC).

Knowledge and/or Experience

  • 10 years of experience in Industrial Hygiene.
  • International experience in major oil & gas or construction projects.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ACGIH, NIOSH or other relevant regulations and guidelines.
